Senior Teams Reach Polar Bear Finals

The Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club (NHSC) is pleased to announce that both the Nepean Hotspurs Knights (South Men 1), and the Nepean Hotspurs Thunder (South Women 1), reached the divisional finals of the 2009/2010 Polar Bear League season. While the Thunder came up short in their championship match against OSU, the Knights claimed the men’s championship on a 6-0 victory over OSU.
The Knights reach the league playoffs having finished the regular season in 3rd place with a record of 10-1-3. In semi final action on February 22nd, the Knights defeated Dimitri’s Odyssey 6-1 on goals from Brendan Potter, Benjamin Blackwell, Bryan Fracassi, Mohmoud Matar and Sean Mackay (2). The championship final played on February 24th, saw the Knights in action against OSU, who had finished the season in 1st place. The Knight’s turned in an excellent performance to win the title, defeating OSU 6-0 on goals from Benjamin Blackwell (2), Luis Barbosa (2) and Aaron Lynn (2).
The Thunder also had a 3rd place finish in the regular season, and advanced to the playoffs with an 8-1-5 record. Facing OSU Black who had finished in 2nd place in the February 22nd semi final, the Thunder recorded a 5-2 victory on goals from Amanda Enright, Maribel Sanchez and Elsa Hergel (2). February 24th’s championship final had the Thunder facing the regular season champion OSU White. Despite a great effort, the Thunder came up short in the final, losing 5-2 with goals from Elsa Hergel and Terrilyn Kuchnicki.
