RECREATIONAL SOCCER FOR 4 to 18 YEAR OLDS

Hotspurs Indoor Development Program (HIDP)
The Nepean Hotspurs Indoor Development Program is recommended for Recreational (house league) players; born in 2005 to 1997 inclusive. The ultimate goal, of the Program, is to provide physical activity with lots of fun while learning basic soccer skills and small technical skills (ball mastery). The Program aligns with the Club’s basic philosophy which emphasizes performance, technical skills and the full understanding of the game playing principles rather than competitiveness through physical strength.

Program practice is on a weeknight between the hours of 6-9PM in one of two adjacent school gyms, while the team play is in the Superdome at Ben Franklin Park on Saturday afternoons between 12noon and 4PM.   The Program will run from the third week of October to the end of February.

The ‘practice groups’ and ‘team play’ groups will have an upper limit of 14 players.

Team play is in 7 a-side (6 players plus goalkeeper) format. This provides players with optimum ball touch and play. Practices are based on game-oriented drills and exercises for the purpose of learning the basics of the game. The program is run by Hotspurs staff coaches who are highly experienced and provincially licensed pre-B coaches.

Minimum required level of coaching for this program is Level 3 Senior Community Coaching Certificate.

The Program is designed and supervised by the Club Head Coach, Boris Bajagic, Canadian National ‘A’ Soccer license holder.

Youth Recreational League Program - South Side Soccer League (SSSL)

The Nepean Hotspurs offer the opportunity for youth playes aged 12-18, to participate in recreational soccer.  Nepean Hotspurs' recreational players are registered to play in the South Side Soccer League (SSSL), a league in which several other Clubs both local (Nepean City, Ottawa Internationals) and south of Ottawa (Kemptville, Merrickville and South Dundas) also participate.

The rules and regulations, of the league, are primarily FIFA based, with some additional recreational substitiution flexibility in order to offer, as much as possible, equal playing time to all participants.  Games are played on a full field, 11 v 11.  Hotspurs teams' play against other SSSL teams from other clubs that applied to the league, as noted above, and on occasion will play versus other Hotspurs' teams where more than one Hotspurs' team was registered to plaay in the same age group division.  The divisions are Mixed 12/13, Girls 12/13, Mixed 14/15, Girls 14/15, Mixed 16/17/18 and Girls 16/17/18.

Hotspurs SSSL teams have one practice and one game weekly.

Recreational soccer provides the opportunity for equal playing time and to play and learnthe game in a supportive TEAM environment.  Coaches will work to help players achieve individual skill improvements with the ball as well as encourage players to learn a basic life skill in working and supporting each other in a team environment.

Please visit the SSSL website http://www.southsidesoccer.ca/ for more information.

Game nights are determined by the South Side Soccer League and practices are typically the opposite evening, i.e.; if game Wednesday, practice is generally Monday.

Top Dawg Program (offered in both outdoor and indoor seasons if sufficient player demand)

Ranked as one of the top 10 overall clubs in Ontario (2008 TERRA® Power Ranking), the Nepean Hotspurs Soccer Club is focused on player development at all levels, and all ages. Modeled on our flagship TOP GUN elite development program, the TOP DAWG program is open to all 8-11 years old players, boys and girls. Participants must be registered in the Hotspurs recreational “Let the Kids Play” program.  Registration will be capped at 45 boys and 45 girls based on a “first come, first served” basis.

The key objective of the TOP DAWG program is to involve our younger players in an age and skill appropriate development program, led by our talented staff coaches. Using the latest coaching principles, methodologies and age appropriate patterns of practice, our young players will develop in a fun and challenging environment. Participants will gain confidence in their abilities, meet new friends, and generally enhance their knowledge and enjoyment of the “beautiful game”.

The TOP DAWG program consists of 10 one hour sessions on Saturdays.  TOP DAWG training groups will consist of a maximum of 15 players.

Under the leadership of Club Head Coach Boris Bajagic (CSA National ‘A’ License), the TOP GUN faculty includes Duane Barker, Kingsley Knight  and Adam Knight (CSA National ‘B’ Licensed coaches) and Nikola Brkljaca and James Lande both (OSA Provincial Pre-B licensed coaches). Our staff know the game, have been successful as players and coaches, and they understand that in order for our teams to find success on the field they need to have learned, mastered and perfected their individual and group skills on the practice field. Consequently, the TOP DAWG faculty is dedicated to providing a first class learning experience.
